Lost in Reflection  

 

Koblenz-based artist David Patrick Becker (*1994) presents his first solo exhibition. At its core are self-portraits that explore questions of identity, self-image, and the perception of others. Becker addresses the uncertainty and inner conflict of a generation that constantly compares itself—both in the mirror and in the gaze of others.

The painting titles – Who Am I?, Ghosted, No Reply or Craving Likes – directly reference experiences of digital everyday life. Between dating apps, chats, and social media, fragile moments of self-questioning unfold: Am I visible? Am I recognized? Or do I remain unnoticed, lost in the endless reflection of other faces?
In works such as Prep for Hookup or Call for Attention, Becker shows how self-staging and intimate expectation intertwine. What becomes palpable is how easily the search for resonance can remain unanswered.
Inspired by his love of pop culture, the series reads like a pop album: each painting carries its own mood, but together they unfold a soundtrack of closeness, longing, and the fragile search for authenticity.

David Patrick Becker primarily works with self-portraits that address identity, queerness, and the search for self-image in the digital age. With a direct and uncompromising visual language, he connects personal experiences with collective questions of his generation, making visible the tension between authenticity and performance.​​
